How do I copy Handicap System data from one computer to another?
- First the Handicap System should be installed on both the source computer (computer you are copying data FROM) and the destination computer (computer you are copying data TO).
- BACKUP data from the source computer. Run Handicap System, pull down the Roster menu and select Backup / Restore Data. Backup to any kind of media, your hard drive or Internet (Internet option available for HS 2007 version and newer).
- RESTORE the data onto the destination computer. Put the Backup media in the destination computer's drive. Run Handicap System, pull down the Roster menu and select Backup / Restore Data. (2007 - If you backed up to the Internet, you can restore from the Internet)
- Click on the Restore tab on green horizontal bar.
Advanced users: Handicap System backs up all data into one file called HSDATA.ZZP (2007 and newer versions add a date and time stamp as well as your customer number). This file can easily be "emailed" - or downloaded from the Internet if you backed it up to the Internet - to the destination computer to be restored.
IMPORTANT!!! After you restore the data, you will have on the destination computer exactly what you have on the source computer.
It's important to remember, when you restore a backup...the data in the backup (golfers, rosters, courses, etc) is placed on your computer...any existing data is overwritten by the "restored" backup. In other words, restoring a backup DOES NOT MERGE info in the backup with data already on the computer. The restored backup REPLACES existing data on the computer with the backup data. Please see "What Happens in a Restore? ".
Note: Some people have tried to double click on the zipped backup file to view their data. You cannot view your data in this way. The backup file data can be viewed only by restoring it to Handicap System.
